"MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Thursday filed tax evasion charges against the congressman-son of former President Gloria M. Arroyo and his wife for alleged “non-filing of their income tax returns (ITR) and to pay the corresponding taxes due thereon.”

BIR Commissioner Kim. S. Henares filed the criminal complaint before the Department of Justice against Pampanga Representative Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo and his wife Angela Montenegro Arroyo."

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Philippines (PNA) -- The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) District Office No. 3 closed down a grocery store in Poblacion East, Rosario, La Union last week under its "Operation Kandado."

The Consumer-Friendly Trading, a grocery-store owned by Shirley Chu, was found under-declaring its gross sales that resulted in tax deficiency of about P2 million.

The BIR found the grocery store violation after two weeks of surveillance for non-issuance of official receipts to its customers.
